Winter passed by

Netbook Vs. PC Tablets (pros and cons)

Lets make a brief reviews about Netbooks and PC tablets

Netbooks 

                A Netbook is a new type of laptop computer, defined by size, price, horsepower, and operating system. They are small, cheap, under-powered, and run either an old or unfamiliar operating system.
               
               Netbooks run either Windows XP Home edition or Linux (not only is Linux unfamiliar to many, but the versions of Linux on Netbooks are not the mainstream popular distributions). They do not run XP Professional, Vista, or OS X. Microsoft arbitrarily restricts Netbooks from running the Professional Edition of Windows XP. Likewise, Apple arbitrarily restricts OS X to Apple hardware and it has never played in the low-end realm that Netbooks occupy.* Vista requires too much horsepower to run well on a Netbook. HP has been the only company to offer Vista on a Netbook. The price, however, was so high that it's debatable whether such a machine qualifies as a Netbook.

               Netbooks typically have less powerful hardware than larger laptop computers. Some netbooks do not even have a conventional hard drive. Such netbooks use solid-state storage devices instead, as these require less power, are faster, lighter, and generally more shock-resistant, but with much less storage capacity (such as 32, 64, or 128GB compared to the 100GB to 2TB mechanical hard drives typical of many notebooks/laptop computers).
All netbooks on the market today support Wi-Fi wireless networking and many can be used on mobile telephone networks with data capability (for example,3G). Mobile data plans are supplied under contract in the same way as mobile telephones. Some also include ethernet and/or modem ports, for broadbandor dial-up Internet access, respectively.

PC Tablets

             A tablet PC is a wireless, portable personal computer with a touch screen interface. The tablet form factor is typically smaller than a notebook computer but larger than a smart phone.
It  is a portable personal computer equipped with a touchscreen as a primary input device and designed to be operated and owned by an individual.The term was made popular as a concept presented by Microsoft in 2001, but tablet PCs now refer to any tablet-sized personal computer, regardless of the operating system.
Unlike laptops, tablet personal computers may not be equipped with a keyboard, in which case they use a virtual onscreen substitute. All tablet personal computers have a wireless adapter for Internet and local network connection. Software applications for tablet PCs include office suites, web browsers,games and a variety of applications. However, since portable computer hardware components are low powered, demanding PC applications may not provide an ideal experience to the user.




Difference between Netbooks and PC Tablets 

Netbooks and Tablets both are similar in some aspects, yet they are a lot more different.

Operating System – Most of the netbooks are based on windows, whereas tablets usually run on Android OS.
User Interface – Tablet PCs usually offers a touch-screen interface to the user. There are touch-screen netbooks out there, but the Netbooks are known for offering a similar interface as that of a laptop.
Hardware Specifications – Netbooks are believed to have a better configuration when compared to a Tablet PC. Tablet PCs don’t have keyboards usually and that is the worst part. However, not having a keyboard makes a Tablet PC lighter, portable and compact.
Price – Price of a netbook is lower when compared to a tablet pc, the reason for this thing could be the manufacturing cost. Tablet PCs are a hot gadget these days, they are in demand and they were released lately, these could be a few more reasons which adds up to the difference of the price.

One thing is certain, tablet PC’s and netbooks both have advantages and disadvantages over each other and do in-fact serve slightly different purposes. The tablet PC is built for content consumption and very light content creation. With it a consumer can read books, check and send e-mail, watch movies (even in HD), and play games. The netbook on the other hand is built for content creation as well as light content consumption. A standard windows operation system allows the netbook to create most content a standard laptop can create and edit.
Pricing is another factor worth considering. Netbooks can be purchased for $250 – $300 while Ipads are in the $500+ range. Those looking for a cheap mobile computer will have to spend about twice as much for the tablet PC unless prices come down.


Which one is better?

I guess different people will have different opinions.
Tablet PC can be a good choice for people who need a lot of portability and who like to own a fast and responsive gadget which could be operated easily with a finger-touch.
However Netbooks will be a great choice for people who want a durable mini laptop and who need a keyboard for doing most of the work.

What is Computer Engineering


Basic Information

The field of
Computer Engineering is at the epicenter of this development. It encompasses a wide range of topics including operating systems, computer architecture, computer networks, robotics, artificial intelligence, and computer-aided design. 


If you major in Computer Engineering, you'll learn all about the hardware and software aspects of computer science. You'll gain a solid understanding of circuit theory and electronic circuits, too. Also, because Computer Engineering is closely linked with Electrical Engineering, the fields are found in the same department at many universities. Consequently, many undergraduate programs incorporate most of the core curricula in both electrical engineering and computer science so graduates will be prepared to work in either field.

Computer System engineering, also called computer engineering, is a discipline that combines both electrical engineering and computer science.Computer System engineers usually have training in electronic engineering, software design and hardware-software integration instead of only software engineering or electronic engineering. Computer System engineers are involved in many aspects of computing, from the design of individual microprocessorspersonal computers, and supercomputers, to circuit design. Computer engineering as an academic discipline

The first accredited computer engineering degree program in the United States was established at Case Western Reserve University in 1971. As of October 2004, there were 170 ABET-accredited computer engineering programs in the US.Due to increasing job requirements for engineers, who can design and manage all forms of computer systems used in industry, some tertiary institutions around the world offer a bachelor's degree generally called computer engineering. Both computer engineering and electronic engineering programs include analog and digital circuit design in their curricula. As with most engineering disciplines, having a sound knowledge of mathematics and sciences is necessary for computer engineers.

How to choose a right Digital SLR camera that fits in a beginner

The best beginner digital SLR camera must meet two primary criteria:

  1. It must be easy to use
  2. It must be inexpensive

Luckily, these two go hand in hand: cameras that are easy to use tend to have less extensive features than cameras designed for professional and semi-professional photographers (also called advanced amateurs or pro).
Naturally, cameras with less features also cost less.
This leaves the beginning photographer with two alternatives when it comes to acquiring a new digital SLR:

  1. Buy a used camera for very little money and get used to how it operates, THEN spend the big bucks on a camera with all the features you want
  2. Buy an inexpensive modern camera with a limited feature set and - possibly - upgrade to a more advanced model in the future

Used Digital SLRs

A used camera is great for anyone new to digital SLRs who might be pondering some of these questions:
  • Would I really use all those features that are included on a more expensive camera?
  • Will I ever want to learn more about the camera or just use it in point-and-shoot mode?
  • Will I find that the size and weight of an SLR is too much to lug around and will it sit in the closet all the time?
If your answers to these questions are "no", "point-and-shoot" and "yes" then you don't want your first beginner digital SLR to cost half your paycheck.
The good news for you is that there are plenty of great used cameras currently available since early adopters are now trading up their old cameras for some of the spiffy features that are only available on modern SLRs.

What new features would you be missing out on by purchasing an old camera (and by old I mean from 2 years ago)?

  1. Dust Control - new cameras prevent dust from attaching to the camera sensor. Dust shows up as little black specs in every digital photo you take.
  2. Live View LCD - an LCD that shows you a preview of the photo you're about to take, just like on compact digital cameras 
  3. Extended Dynamic Range - modern SLRs can capture more detail in shadow and highlights

Dust control is probably the most useful new feature, since a sensor that's contaminated with dust can be quite hard to clean.
The other features are nice to have but might not have a dramatic effect on how you take photos with the camera. Some models that I'd recommend you look for include the Canon Rebel XT, Nikon D50, Olympus E-500 and the Pentax K100D or K10D.

The second best option for beginner digital SLR photographers is to start out with a camera with limited features.
